Duncan Goddard – Education Officer
Duncan is an educator who is passionate about science and problem solving. He has a diverse range of teaching experience, having taught science and language at primary school, high school, and adult education levels. At GTAC, he is dedicated to engaging young scientists in hands-on activities that encourage critical thinking and problem solving. By encouraging young scientists to think creatively about biological, engineering, and technological processes, he hopes to inspire them to develop innovative solutions to real-world problems.
He previously worked in the field of cardiovascular physiology. Duncan's research explored a prospective medicine for its ability to modify platelet behavior and slow down blood clot formation. Although platelets play a crucial role forming blood clots that stop bleeding when a wound occurs, when platelets misbehave, they can form blood clots that obstruct blood flow and lead to serious health consequences. This research aimed to identify potential new treatments for problematic blood clots that can cause significant morbidity and mortality.
In his free time, Duncan finds joy in outdoor activities such as hiking and biking. He is captivated by the intricacy and interconnectedness of the environment. Duncan encourages others to cultivate a deeper appreciation for the natural world, and to develop curiosity and wonder about the ways in which humans can interact with it sustainably.
